Please man; please God |
SSS 6:4 |
19-2-1966 |
Forbearance is the best saadhana, fortitude is the foremost saadhana. |
|
Develop detachment |
SSS 6:27 |
1966 |
Bear all and do nothing; hear all and take nothing serve all and be nothing |
|
He too is He |
SSS 14:13 |
22-11-1978 |
The Lord, too, will provide many tests to ensure that your faith is firm, that your spirit of seva is full and universal. The weaker practitioners of this seva saadhana (service-centred spiritual effort) will soon be shaken by these tests, and stray away from the right path. The six enemies--- lust, anger, greed, delusion, pride and hatred---that lie in wait to foil their saadhana (spiritual effort), overpower the inner urge and make them slaves of the merely physical and material. |

Lessons from the Sea |
SSS 11:44 |
26- 7-1972 |
Man soaks himself with lessons from the environment, whether he is aware of it or not. That is why those interested in his future urge him to seek Sathsang (good companionship), to avoid slander, faction, pride and violence. The first Guru is the mother; her example, her advice, her admonition affects man deepest and longest. |
|
Neither Scripture nor Logic |
SSS 1:20 |
12-4-1959 |
Buddhi (intellect) revels in discussion and disputation; once you yield to the temptation of dialectics, it takes a long time for you to escape from its shackles and efface it and enjoy the bliss which comes from its nullification. You must all the while be aware of the limitation of reason. |
|
The bottomless pit |
SSS 6:18 |
3- 7-1966 |
Develop bhakthi (devotion) and you are free, for the Lord takes on the burden you carry. The Raamaayana is the great text for all who yearn to surrender to God and win Him. |
|
The Tree of Life |
SSS 6:20 |
3-8-1966 |
Man is fundamentally Divine, and so, naturally, the more he manifests the Divine attributes of Love, Justice, Truth and Peace, the more aanandha he is able to enjoy and impart. The less he manifests them, the more ashamed he ought to be, that he is living counter to his heritage. |
|
Proper Care of the Boat |
SSS 6:21 |
3-8-1966 |
There is no love and sympathy between even the members of a household. Kali yuga has become Kalaha yuga, the era of wrangling and wars. Even while foes are surrounding this country, there is wild hate between one State and another, claiming 'this bit of land is mine', 'that bit of land cannot be yours', forgetting that both are limbs of the same body. |
|
Give the giver the gift |
SSS 8:45 |
23-11-1968 |
Practice when you are here the three disciplines of silence, cleanliness, and forbearance. |
|
The Spider in the same web |
SSS 9:17 |
3.9.1969 |
Man should not yield to thirst for the world's gifts; he should yearn for the gift of Grace. That yearning will impel Krishna to visualise Himself in order to quench the agony. Bharatheeya culture has emphasised the inner meaning of the scriptures, and the deeper significances of rites and ceremonies. |
|
Raam and kaam |
SSS 10:3 |
1-2-1970 |
You must try to put up with difference of opinion and variety of temperaments, develop understanding and sympathy. That will strengthen Sahana. |
|
Give and gain |
SSS 11:38 |
3-2-1972 |
Every man has to cultivate the virtues of tolerance, forbearance and brotherliness. Love is the spring wheel of a factory. One has to work along with hundreds of others, with different temperaments, so one has to learn forbearance and equanimity. One has to create an atmosphere of tranquility around oneself. No one should be looked upon with envy, malice or hatred. Tranquility can be promoted, if each one does his duty, faithfully and efficiently; that is the highest Saadhana also. |
|
The sea-saw |
SSS 11:46 |
26-9-1972 |
Anger can be subdued only by forbearance cruelty can be overcome only by non-violence, hatred yields only charity and compassion. |
|
He whom Christ announced |
SSS 11:54 |
24-12-1972 |
Cultivate the virtues of charity, compassion, forbearance, love and faith. These are not separate and distinct qualities, they are only the many facets of the Divine in Man, which he has to recognise and develop. |
|
Teacher of teachers |
SSS 12-04 |
5-3-1973 |
The Form of Shiva is itself a great lesson in tolerance and forbearance. |
|
Bhaarathi-Bhaaratham |
SSS 12-12 |
4-4-1973 |
Reason out and convince yourself that tolerance, forbearance, love and sweetness can alone ensure peace for yourself and for society |
|
Your image in His eye |
SSS 12-14 |

|

SSS 14:46 |
17-2-1980 |
One must try to stay a while in order to examine and judge. Develop the quality of fortitude, the strength not to yield to the opinions of others unless you find them to be right and the courage to bear criticism and face slander. |
|
Kshama, The Grandest and Noblest Virtue |
Summer Showers |
2000-12 |
True and Selfless Love manifests as sacrifice. Such love knows no hatred. It envelops the entire universe, and is capable of drawing near even those who are seemingly far away. Love it is that transforms the human into the Divine. |
